Please visit our website for instructions on shipping, storing or picking up your POV. Please contact your Sponsor for the Host country. They can provide you with information needed to ensure the smooth transition. However here are some tips on what you need when you arrive at the VPC.
Turning in or storing povs:
If someone other than the Service Member is turning in the vehicle, you need to give them written/notarized authorization to do so, unless it is the spouse and they are listed on the orders by name.
URGENT - PLEASE READ BELOW REQUIREMENTS:
Provide the VPC with 1 copy each of the following documentation:
a) PCS orders and any amendments; MARINE CORPS YOU ALSO NEED YOUR WEB ORDERS.
b) Registration; MUST BE CURRENT AND THE SERVICE MEMBER'S NAME MUST APPEAR ON THE REGISTRATION. IF IN ANY ONE ELSE'S NAME IS ALSO ON THE REGISTRATION, YOU MUST HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THEM TO SHIP THE CAR, BUT IT MUST STILL ALSO BE IN THE SERVICE MEMBER'S NAME. SPOUSE'S NAME IS OK, BUT THEIR NAME MUST APPEAR ON THE PCS ORDERS.
c). Title; If there is a lien listed on the Title, you need a "Lienholder Permission Letter" along with the current registration.
HERE IS SOME PERTINENT ADDITIONAL INFO:
1) Storage Authorization Letter from your Transportation/Personal Property Office if you are storing your vehicle.
2) Notarized letter or Power of Attorney is needed to process the vehicle for turn-in if someone is acting as the service member's agent to do so. Exception is spouse if listed on the orders. For pick-up, same applies. Except for pick up, if a claim is being processed by an agent, including a spouse, they need a power of attorney to process the claim.
3) **Some countries require a copy of your Passport, please check with the VPC or your host country sponsor. These are required for Department of State moves, hard-lift countries i.e., Budapest, Bulgaria, Hungary, etc. Check with the VPC to determine if your move is considered a hard-lift area or under a Department of State move.
4) Vehicle must be registered in the Service Members Name. If the spouse is the only name on the Title/Registration, then the spouses name must also be on the orders. Additionally, if the spouse is the only one on the Title/registration, then we need a copy of the Marriage Certificate and a written letter from the spouse giving the Service Member permission to ship the vehicle and vice versa. Whoever is not on the Title/Registration must give permission to ship the vehicle. Marriage Certificate needed if not on registration and not on orders.
